22 Dec Overcoming a Fear of Balloons (Globophobia) with Hypnosis or Hypnotherapy
One volunteer, Rhian, had suffered from an intense fear of balloons since childhood. Her fear stemmed from a traumatic memory involving a balloon tied to her cot as a baby.
Under hypnosis, Rhian was guided back to the original memory and helped to reprocess it in a relaxed state. After the session, she was able to stand in a shop holding balloons — something she had previously been unable to do.
“I was anxious before I started, but once I was hypnotised I felt very relaxed,” she said. “It definitely worked. I still feel cautious, but I’m no longer overwhelmed by fear.”
